    Additional Events to Celebrate Our Bishop-Elect


    Catholic Charismatic Prayer Meeting/Service
    When: Wednesday, September 3 at 6 p.m. CST
    Where: St. Bernadette Soubirous Church, 409 Funderburk Avenue, Houma, Louisiana
    Reception to follow in Herbert Hall (the parish hall)

    Our week-long celebrations will kick off on Wednesday night as we come together to praise God and pray for a deeper presence of the Holy Spirit in the life and ministry of Bishop-Elect Simon Peter. This gathering will include lively worship music, clapping, the reading of Sacred Scripture, the sharing of testimonies, and the exercising of spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues and healing. A reception will follow the prayer meeting in the parish hall. 

    Solemn Vespers
    When: Thursday, September 4 at 6 p.m. CST
    Where: Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales, 500 Goode Street, Houma, Louisiana
    Note: This is not a mass.
    Reception to follow at Vandebilt Catholic High School in the Brother Alfred Kolb Center.

    Faithful will gather this evening in the Cathedral-Church of the Diocese to pray Solemn Vespers. Vespers will include hymns, the praying of psalms, Scripture readings, a homily, and prayers of thanksgiving and intercession within the context of Adoration and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. At the start of Vespers, Bishop-Elect Simon Peter will make a public Profession of Faith and take the Oath of Fidelity as required prior to his Episcopal Ordination the following day. His Episcopal regalia which includes his ring, pectoral cross, miter, and crozier will be blessed on this night.  

    Thanksgiving Mass Animated by the Ugandan Community
    Featuring a Ugandan Choir
    When: Saturday, September 6 at 4 p.m. CST
    Where: St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, 721 Canal Boulevard, Thibodaux, Louisiana
    Reception to follow at the Oaks Venue, 108 St. Patrick Street, Thibodaux, Louisiana
    This special Mass is hosted by St. Joseph Co-Cathedral as Bishop Simon Peter celebrates his first Mass as bishop inside this historic church. St. Joseph Co-Cathedral is of significant importance to the Diocese and to the bishop as it is the mother church of the surrounding churches and is the place of the bishop’s second cathedra (chair). At this Mass, the People of God will experience the cultural beauty of authentic Ugandan worship which is an important part of the life of our new bishop.

    Second Mass of Thanksgiving Animated by the Ugandan Community
    When: Sunday, September 7 at 11 a.m. CST
    Where: Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales, 500 Goode Street, Houma, Louisiana
    Reception to follow in the KC Hall (across the street)

    The final celebration of the week will be a special Mass hosted by the Cathedral-Church of St. Francis de Sales as Bishop Simon Peter celebrates his first Mass as bishop inside his main Cathedral. St. Francis de Sales Cathedral is of significant importance to the Diocese and to the bishop as it holds the title of main Cathedral and is the place of the bishop’s primary cathedra (chair). At this Mass the People of God will experience the cultural beauty of Ugandan worship which is an important part of our new bishop.
