    The Pontifical Mission Societies
    Family in Mission
    • The Pontifical Mission Societies help Catholics live out their baptismal call to participate in the Church's worldwide mission through prayer, sacrifice and support.

The four Pontifical Mission Societies are the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter Apostle, the Missionary Childhood Association and the Pontifical Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. Together, they promote a missionary spirit throughout the Church and support the pastoral and evangelizing work of the Church in mission territories around the world.

    • 100th World Mission Sunday

Coming up on October 18, 2026 is the 100th World Mission Sunday!

“For World Mission Day 2026, which marks the centenary of a celebration established by Pius XI that is very dear to the Church, I have chosen the theme “One in Christ, united in mission.” Following the Jubilee Year, I wish to encourage the whole Church to continue its missionary journey with joy and zeal in the Holy Spirit. This requires hearts united in Christ, reconciled communities and, in everyone, a willingness to cooperate with generosity and trust."
      - Pope Leo XIV

Society for the Propagation of Faith
    • The Society for the Propagation of the Faith supports the Church's missionary work around the world. Through prayer, sacrifice and financial support, Catholics help local Churches serve communities through evangelization, pastoral ministry, education, catechesis, health care, social services and other essential needs.

In the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, support comes through the annual World Mission Sunday collection, the Propagation of the Faith Membership Sunday collection and other gifts, including monthly donations, wills, bequests, legacies and outright gifts.

    Society of St. Peter Apostle
    • The Society of St. Peter Apostle supports the education and formation of candidates for the priesthood and Religious life in mission territories.

The Society helps provide educational support for seminarians as well as men and women preparing for Religious life. Its mission is closely connected to the Church's need for priests, Religious and other pastoral leaders in areas where the Church is growing and resources are limited.

      How you can help

Your support can help provide education and formation for future priests and religious serving the Church in mission territories.

    Missionary Childhood Association
    • The Missionary Childhood Association invites children to participate in the Church's missionary work through prayer, sacrifice and financial offerings.

Its particular focus is helping children develop a missionary spirit and encouraging them to share their faith and concern for children throughout the world. The MCA assists children regardless of religious affiliation.

Children can become involved by praying for children around the world, making personal sacrifices and offering what they can to support missionary efforts.

Pontifical Missionary Union of Priests and Religious
    • The Pontifical Missionary Union of Priests and Religious promotes a missionary spirit among priests, Religious, seminarians, catechists, educators and other pastoral leaders.

Founded in 1916 by Father Paolo Manna, a PIME missionary serving in Myanmar, the Union was created to encourage those already engaged in the Church's work to develop a deeper commitment to the Church's missionary mission. The Union helps form and encourage missionary disciples who can inspire others to live their baptismal responsibility to proclaim the Gospel.
  • The World Mission Rosary

    • The World Mission Rosary was designed by Archbishop Sheen in 1951, at the beginning of his tenure as National Director of The Pontifical Mission Societies. It was a concrete way to pray to Our Lady, Queen of Apostles, for the success of the Church’s missionary efforts across the world. Each decade of the World Mission Rosary represents a different area of the world where missionaries continue to share the Good News of Jesus.

      Green: Africa forest and grasslands
      Blue: Pacific Islands and Oceania
White: Europe, home of the Holy Father, shepherd of the world
Red: Shows the fire of faith that brought the first missionaries to the Americas.
Yellow: Morning light of the East, symbolizing Asia

As you pray the Rosary, reflect on each area of the world.
