This mission comes directly from Jesus. Before ascending to heaven, He entrusted His followers with the Great Commission:
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”For more than 2,000 years, the Church has carried out this mission by proclaiming the Gospel, celebrating the sacraments, forming people in the faith and serving those in need. Today, that same mission belongs to all of us.
As disciples, we are called to grow in faith, live according to the Gospel, participate in the life of the Church and share Christ's love with others. We do this together in our families, parishes, schools and communities.
Our parishes provide places to worship, receive the sacraments and grow in community. Our Catholic schools form young people in faith and knowledge. Our ministries accompany people through every stage of life. Our charitable outreach serves those who are in need. Through evangelization, formation and everyday encounters, we invite people to know Christ and follow Him.
And this mission is for everyone.
The mission Christ gave His Church continues today in every parish, school, ministry and Catholic family across our diocese.
We are called to encounter Christ, become His disciples and help others do the same.
Go. Make disciples.
