In the best interest of the safety of all concerned, all Catholic schools in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux will be closed from Monday, August 24 through Thursday, August 27.
Monday, August 17th represented the first full day of in-classroom instruction in all the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux since mid-March, when the previous school year was dramatically altered by COVID-19.
Gwen Duet, director of counseling at E.D. White Catholic High School in Thibodaux, who is primarily responsible for the eighth grade class, says that parents want their children to be physically and psychologically secure while attending school.
Jennifer Russell, curriculum specialist at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Thibodaux, says that teachers have been planning benchmark assessments ahead of this school year to help parents and educators gauge where students are academically and where they should be.
